  3. She had no desire to touch the land, no longing for the surface. When her time came, she refused the ritual.
She had seen the stars; split like diamonds through the water. She had felt their sparkling, refracted light on her skin.
She was more than content with that.

And she liked her tongue where it was.

  4. Recently, I found a calligraphy set in a charity shop. It cost me 50 pence and inside I found empty ink cartridges and an old hardened putty rubber … There was also a perfectly functioning Shaeffer fountain pen with four different nibs. This set has clearly been loved and well used, making me wonder who owned it previously, and what they used to write with it!

It inspired me to dig out a book on calligraphy that I seem to have had forever, but never really made use of. I located a fresh ink cartridge, cleaned up all the nibs and got to work. I came up with this piece over the weekend.

I asked for a story and Corvus’ travelling man shared a little secret with me instead. It turns out that he hates to tell stories.

  7. Yesterday I went to see James from Road Map to Alaska to do some screen-printing. He has a brilliant little studio and he’s very interested in working closely with Mearle and I.

  8. A while ago I was asked if I thought I could make a Koi Carp. I was fairly sure I could.

This little guy is completely hand sewn and has a glass heart and a tiny shell all stitched up inside him.

I have spent many an early morning embroidering before work with this Koi! He’s completely charming in person and his fishy lips are just adorable. I can’t wait to hear what his owner thinks of him once he arrives. Exciting times indeed!

  9. Mearle loves to bake. Corvus loves to eat. A match made in heaven right?
Sunday’s treat was homemade smoked cheese and sun-dried tomato bread. Hopefully it looks as good to you as it tasted for me.

  11. Fountain pens. I honestly believed, until very recently, that unless it was black or blue and in a cartridge you just couldn’t get ink for them. I blame Parker. And school.

Did you know about ink converters? I didn’t, but the moment I found out I went in search of one for my Parker and some interesting ink to fill it with.

I found a converter locally, and ordered some Diamine Ink. I bought two bottles, because I could NOT resist all of those beautiful colours. The one shown above is Ancient Copper. I’m entirely too excited about writing anything now.

  12. Next Friday I am hosting a blues night at one of my favourite venues featuring The UkuladeezThe Jitterbugs and myself.  This is my first taste of promotion and if it goes well it will be the first of many. These are a couple of draft posters that I have designed. Hopefully flyers will be printed by the end of the week too!

  13. Here’s a look at the envelopes I made for the Elevated Envelope project.

Those are constellations on there. I stitched them onto the envelopes while they were flat, using backstitch and french knots, before folding and glueing the envelopes into their proper shape.

    I love post posts.

  15. Capturing a legendary bird can be hard work for anyone. By the next anime convention, I’ll be ready.

Look out, Zapdos. I’m coming for you with needle and thread.
